I have been working in Design for around 20 years now (it's amazing how time has flown when you stop to look around for a moment!) from getting my start working at a Printers where I was creating stationary designs for customers (so letterheads, business cards and that sort of thing) then on to working for magazine publisher Niche Media, where I was responsible for leading the design and creation of websites for 4 of their publications (Desktop, Macworld, Marketing and Inside magazines).
I then moved on to become the Managing Editor of Desktop magazine, where I stayed for nearly 4 years, and was immersed in every aspect of the Design industry. On leaving Desktop I created, wrote for, designed and published my own digital only art & design magazine called Nothing to Nobody. This ran for 3 years and had a subscriber base of around 1200 people, which is not bad for one of the first digital only publications in existence at a time when most were an extension of print media. During this period I was also the Editor of the art & design heavy Wooden Toy magazine and working as a Producer/ Creative at several agencies.
Leaving the agencies and magazines behind I went to work for Telstra so I could focus on my creative writing (I have now self-published 2 books and just finished writing a 3rd). I was at Telstra for just on 6 years and during this time managed their Loyalty program's online presence single handedly. This included taking the property through 3 full redesigns and creating all banner media and imagery for the section on top of managing the content and development side of things. It was a busy time but I really enjoyed it. Following Telstra's change in direction for this program (amongst other things) I moved over to ANZ, where I am working in the Content space today.
On a personal note, I am currently studying for my Bachelors Degree in Communication Design so that I can officially become a Designer full-time and have a focus instead of being what I call a "professional unicorn" (someone who can, and has, pretty much done everything). Eventually I would one day like to become a teacher.
I am also an Author and compulsive writer with a love of mythology, history, pirates, rollerskating, zombies and science fiction that filters through everything I write.
