I was tasked to create a mural to draw attention to the flora and fauna that make Merri Creek their home in order to remind the people that use the creek recreationally that this is a very special place that is home to a wide range of plants and animals, including many endangered species. There's a special message included, from the creatures that make the creek their home, which is ‘Please - Don’t trash our creek’. The message is a clever play on words asking people to dispose of their rubbish thoughtfully, and also not to damage the homes of the animals that live there.
The mural was designed to be placed in a high traffic location - the Bell Street bridge - where it will get a lot of visual traction. This will also serve to beautify and add value to the area as currently the bridge is a bit of an eyesore. Unfortunately the council chose not to go ahead with the concept.
